JAMES WESLEY LONG
January 7, 1947 - September 7, 2023
In loving memory of James Wesley Long
On September 7, 2023, James Long left this world to be with the Lord and his heavenly family. He left behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished connections that touched the lives of many. James was a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, beloved uncle, and friend. His presence in our lives was a true gift; and while we mourn the loss of James physically, we also celebrate the legacy he left behind. A legacy that reminds us to embrace the values he held dear; love, kindness, compassion, and the importance of nurturing the relationships closest to him.
The bond with his lovely wife, Dorothy, was inseparable. They meant everything to each other; sharing not only their lives but also their hearts and souls.
James is survived by his wife Dorothy of fifty-five years of marriage, his daughters, Angela Long, and Kimberly Long; his sisters Willie Webb, and Martha McQuaig; his grandchildren, Ashley, Jayden, and Alisha; as well as a host of many nieces, nephews, and cousins. James was preceded in death by his father, Stanley, mother, Ruth, sisters, Rosa and Susan, and son Robert. Beyond James' love for his family, he had a deep passion for music, football, traveling, bowling, and bocce.
James was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina and attended the Durham City School District. He relocated to California in 1968. James' employment was primarily in the oil industry. He was employed with Shell Oil Company and Aera Energy for 45 years.
James had a contagious smile. His heart overflowed with kindness and generosity. He carried with him a gentle and joyful spirit that had a calming effect on those around him. He was the kind of person that left you better than how he found you.
Few people get the opportunity to ever know someone who truly cares, and even fewer people are blessed enough to have known someone who positively impacts their lives forever. May he find eternal peace in the embrace of the Lord, knowing that his time on Earth was a blessing to us all.
