Brenda Aiko Singletary was born to Harry and Charlotte Tamai, on December 8, 1959 in Los Angeles, California but grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was the second of four children born to her parents’ union. Brenda’s parents preceded her death; her Mom in 2015 and her Dad in 2016. After a long fought battle, Brenda transitioned on December 26, 2024 while in the comfort of her home and after a brief hospital stay.
Brenda attended and graduated from the Kaimuki High School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1977. In 1979, she graduated from The University of Hawaii with a General Clerical degree. Brenda first got into the medical program when she became a Medical Assistant in 1981, a License Practical Nurse in 1986, and a Registered Nurse in 1991. She received all of her nursing education from the University of Hawaii and worked at various private, state and military hospitals throughout her career. Brenda was very enthusiastic about her nursing profession and loved taking care of people; it was her passion and her calling. After 35 years in nursing, Brenda retired in 2021.
Brenda met the love of her life, Arthur Cordell Singletary Sr. in 1990 and they were married on April 11, 1994. During their 34 year old union, they built a foundation of trust, respect, love and commitment which enabled them to navigate life challenges with emotional support and compassion to one another while allowing space for individual independence and growth. Arthur’s beloved wife was truly loved, and he was loved by her. Brenda and Arthur doted on each other, their two grandbabies, and always made time for family and friends. As a Registered Nurse and Marine spouse, Brenda supported Arthur’s military career while raising their sons Arthur Cordell Singletary Jr. and Isaiah Jermaine Singletary.
Brenda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a loving mother in law, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter and sister in law, co-worker and friend. Her sincerity and kindness touched everyone who knew her or encountered her. She always saw the good in people and never spoke negatively of anyone. Brenda had a genuine appreciation for life, her family and friends. Some of Brenda’s favorite pastimes were playing cards, board games, watching movies, doing puzzles, sewing, daily walks, and going to the gym. Seafood, prime rib, pastries and eggs were some of her favorite foods to eat. Japan, England, Hungary, Austria, Germany, South Korea, Czech Republic and Spain are some of the countries that Brenda visited and loved.
Brenda was a woman of her word, faith, integrity and her generosity knew no bounds. Her positive attitude, loyalty, beautiful smile and infectious laugh are some of her characteristics that we loved about Brenda. She has definitely left an indelible mark on our broken hearts. She has always accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized on July 23rd, 2023 at the Center Point Church in Murrieta where she remained a member until her passing.
Brenda leaves to mourn her loving husband Arthur Singletary, her sons; Arthur (AJ) Singletary Jr. and Isaiah Singletary, her daughters in law; Kaori and Marissa Singletary, her Grandchildren; Kalique and Lani Singletary, her siblings; Joann (Steven) Okamoto, Roger (Lori) Tamai and Dayle Tamai. Also left to mourn are her father and mother in law; Arthur and Lillie Singletary, her sister in law; Antionette (Christopher) Solomon, her nieces and nephews, her friends, co-workers and church family.
Brenda has touched many lives and will be forever and fondly remembered for her kindness, humility, grace and compassion. It is truly an understatement to say Brenda will be missed by her beloved fur baby Maya, her family and friends. Our memories of her will be cherished forever.
