Troy L. Shelton, age 95, of Smyrna, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was the son of the late George Monroe and Nora Ervin Shelton. Mr. Shelton is survived by his wife of 49 years, Janice Shelton; daughters, Pam Sullivan and her husband Steve, Tammy James, Janice Miller and Wanda Bright; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Wayne Shelton and brother, Louis Shelton.
Services to celebrate Mr. Shelton will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Tuesday, October 31, 2023 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Trees officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are cordially invited to visitation also on Tuesday afternoon, October 31, 2023 from Twelve noon until the service begins at Two O’clock at Roselawn Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jerome Swanson, Billy King, Kevin Sullivan, Kyle James, Larry Raymer, and Rick Digiallonardo.
Mr. Shelton was born in 1928 and raised in Dickson County, TN, where he worked on the farm alongside his dad and brother. When Ford Motor Company opened a plant in west Nashville, Troy went to work there, retiring after 36 years.
Mr. Shelton had a long history with the Church of the Nazarene. He was a Minister of Music at Dickson Church of the Nazarene and Park Lane Nazarene in Clarksville, Tennessee and has been a member of Grace church of the Nazarene since 1984. He served on four church boards: Dickson Church of the Nazarene, Park Lane Nazarene, Northside Nazarene and Whispering Hills Church of the Nazarene. He also taught the junior high boys Sunday school for many years. One of his Sunday school boys, once in adulthood, called to thank him for being his teacher – saying “I am the Christian today because of your influence and teaching. Mr. Shelton was grateful for each and every day that he was given. He was an avid Bible reader and loved God with all his heart. He testified to everyone how good God is.
