Stephen Christopher “Steve” Mitchell, age 66, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, formerly of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his home. He was the son of the late Dr. Gerald and Dorothy Mayer Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Diane Jones Mitchell; daughters, Patti Agnew (Steven), Stephanie Farmer (Tom) and Katie Mitchell; granddaughters, Evie and Stella Agnew; siblings, Lynn Mitchell, Kathy Mitchell (Terry Brueck), Joe Mitchell (Laura), Mary Wilcox (Sam); sister-in-law, Debbie Biondi; many nieces, nephews and friends. Services to celebrate Mr. Mitchell will be at Two O’clock the afternoon of Saturday, December 4, 2021 at Roselawn Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Pierce officiating. Friends are invited to visitation also on Saturday from Twelve O’clock noon until the service begins at Two O’clock. Masks are required for all in attendance. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Melanoma Research Alliance or charity of your choice in Mr. Mitchell’s memory. The family would like to thank Tennessee Oncology for their care and compassion.
Mr. Mitchell was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. A 28-year employee at the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, he started as a machinist in 1979 and held various positions to provide for his family until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Kern Memorial United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge and the family was embraced by the congregation at Trinity United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro. He bravely fought a twelve month battle against melanoma and carried his positive outlook and sense of humor until the end. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers, camping, hiking, the mountains, sunrises, and working on cars. He loved being a grandpa, which was a goal of his since he was 7 years old. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Son and Friend. Masks will be required to be worn by all those attending. We will provide one for those who need one.
