George was born on March 11, 1925 in Rickman, TN.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Chiyoko Onoda Hinds, his children, Roy Hinds and Shirley McGhee, son-in-law, Philip, his grandchildren, Christopher Hinds, Philip “Bud” McGhee Jr., Jessica McGhee and Luke McGhee, his great grandchildren, Chris Hinds, Jayce Hinds, Hailey Hinds, Alek McGhee, Samuel McGhee and Emilia Pangilinan, his sisters, Lucille Huddleston and Nellie Diamond plus numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ida Hinds, his brother, Harlan Hinds, and sisters, Verla Gentry, Kathrine Coward and Pauline Keisling.
George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged on December 6, 1946.
Through his occupation as an aircraft mechanic, he worked in Japan where he met and married his wife, Chiyoko, and later moved back to the United States.
George enjoyed nature, reading, gardening, and spending time with his family. He also loved sharing what he had read – especially poetry – and enjoyed hand-making things for his family. He will be remembered for his kind and compassionate spirit.
Funeral services are to be held on February 3, 2022 at Roselawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5350 NW Broad Street, Murfreesboro, TN 37129. Visitation will be from 10 – 12 pm with the service to follow at 12noon.
