So many good memories with our "Second Son!" Heartbroken to hear of Butch's passing...as a young boy at Murfreesboro Christian Church, I thought he was probably the coolest guy in the world. His smile and his kindness in Jesus' name made an impact on me, and I can tell from the other posts that he had the same effect on others throughout his life. We're making a donation to Mountain Mission School in his honor. Praying for you, Scott family, and looking forward with you to the reunion waiting for us one day.

Hey man,  the sadness of your death didn't really hit me until the afternoon of your funeral.  I wish I could have been there.  But that night, I woke up to fun memories:  how you made us all laugh when we were supposed to be standing at attention during band camp, how you and I depleted the stocks of toilet paper of grocery stores on weekends, and then how you visited me at UNC for a Duke-Carolina basketball game.  You were my best friend in high school and it was my loss that we didn't stay in touch.  I'll miss you but I'll try to hold onto these memories until death comes for me some day, too.

We were really sorry to hear about Butch. We weren't able to make the service or visit as Kellie is in the process of 5 1/2 weeks of radiation.

I will always remember the first time I saw Butch; it was when he drove up our driveway and wanted to invite our children to church.  When he got out of his jeep he was so friendly and outgoing, then after getting to know him I saw his heart for God and knew he was the perfect guy for our youth. He had great ideas and really got their attention.  My husband was in ministry in another church at the time where there was no youth ministry.  Finally our kids started getting us up for church instead of the other way around.  They couldn't wait to get there. Both of our children are married now and are faithfully walking with and serving God today (our son is a children's pastor) and your son had a big part of that.  Our daughter enjoyed so much talking with you on the phone and if we have any more pictures we will send them.  We have missed him over the years but we look forward to hugs with him one day!  You are being prayed for and may God bless you in the days ahead!

Met "Butch" years ago, and enjoyed his company.  He had this great since of humor and we shared many fun times at many NASCAR races in Bristol and Charlotte. He was a great friend and will be truly missed, gone to soon.

Ah, Butch, you will be missed, but leave it to you to continue that adventure of yours on a whole 'nother level!

No words can express my sorrow feelings right now after hearing about Butch. I had the pleasure of working with him for several years in Charleston and we got to know each other very well, the good and the bad. As it doesn't need mentioning, but your son touched hundreds of lives and improved each and every one of them through his kind words, his loving nature and that awesome laugh. He made me a better person and his influences still help me each and every day in many facets of my life. I have countless memories of he and I together laughing, joking, talking about life and even shedding a tear or two. My broken heart weeps at the loss of my amazing friend, brother and mentor. May God grant him peace and I pray that I may meet him once again up above. All my love and thoughts to the Scott family,

It is with profound sadness that I have learned of the untimely loss of my old friend. I regret that we never solidly reconnected as adults, but there are very few of my high school memories that do not involve Bert. I will remember fondly the backyard football and basketball games and the shared band experiences. He was truly one of my best friends at a formative time in my life, and I offer my most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

So very saddened to hear of your loss. Butch was a great friend to our son Tony Carmody when we relocated to Reidsville. He was very influential in Tony's attending Johnson University. I am so very sorry for your unfathomable loss. I went to high school with Bert and have fond memories of him.  He was always kind and fun to be around. How saddened I was to hear about Butch.  The first time I saw Butch was when my family and I were visiting Reidsville Christian Church.  That Sunday he and the youth group got up and sang "Lord I Lift Your Name On High".  I can remember how handsome he was and that smile that we grew to love.  We never visited another church after that.  Butch was the best youth minster I have ever seen before or since.  He deeply impacted my daughter's spiritual growth and her continued love for God to this day.  What a loss for us here on earth but what a wonderful day for Butch to be in the arms of our Heavenly Father.  I will continue to pray for you and your family.  Thank you for sharing your son with us here in Reidsville.  We were truly blessed.

Pat and I are missing our good friend and brother, Butch, a heart touched by God who touched many hearts for Him. I remember how he learned to play the guitar in Reidsville so he could play on Sunday nights for our youth worship time. He loved those worship songs and how they drew us to God. I remember so many good times and lots of laughter - laughing until we cried. He made a huge impact in Reidsville. Praying for you, Bert & Patsy, and for your family. So sorry to hear about Butch. My prayers are with your family at this unexpected loss. Butch always had a smile, and lived life so fully. I only knew him from my time at JBC, but we shared many basketball trips, classes, and fun times together. His personality was infectious and made me try to have more joy in my own life. I pray the Holy Spirit comfort and give you peace not only now, but in the months and years to come. God's ways are not our ways, our understanding for HIS purpose is greater than ours could ever hope to be, and yet HIS peace, grace and mercy abounds to us to overflowing. I will lift you up in prayer this Friday as you mourn. Butch is now in the presence of the Father, and that is worth rejoicing.

I went to JBC with him. We weren't close but he never made me feel unwelcome. He was full of life and laughter. Prayers for peace that passes all understanding for his family and close friends.
