He was born Saturday, December 30, 1939, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Edward and Dorothy (Benson) Decker. Philip loved his family and was a devoted and loyal husband, father, and grandfather. He was a great athlete and played baseball and basketball in high school and he was an excellent bowler. Philip enjoyed riding horses since he was ten years old and was an avid horseman. He loved animals, wildlife and being outdoors. Philip was one of those guys who was great at everything that he did. He had worked as a barber most of his life, but also worked at Rockwool in Alexandria, Delco Battery, and at Muncie Chevrolet. Mr. Decker proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Survivors include his loving wife, Janet (Howell) Decker. They were married on May 29, 1959, and were just days away from celebrating sixty-five years together. Also surviving are his son, Lance Decker; granddaughter, Destini Decker; brothers, Darryl Decker, and Bob Decker; and several nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy Decker.
There are no services scheduled and Elm Ridge Funeral Home has been entrusted with his cremation arrangements.
