He was born on Sunday, August 6, 1922, in Kokomo, Indiana, the son of the late John and Leora (Spraker) Mann. He married Marilou Baldwin on December 21, 1961, and she preceded him in death in 2018.
Maury graduated from Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University and Ball State University. He taught school for sixteen years, mostly in the Kokomo School Corporation. He continued his career as Director of Facilities Planning for nineteen years at Ball State University. In 1952, he was awarded the outstanding Industrial Arts Teacher of the Year. Maury served in the Army in Europe during WWII, receiving five battle stars, and co-edited the history of 128 mm.ord.co. Maury was a charter member and served as president of Munsee Woodcarvers from many years. He was a past President and member of Phi Delta Kappa of the Zeta Chi fraternity and of the Industrial Arts fraternity. Maury was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and his hobbies included teaching wood carving for many years at the High Street United Methodist Church in the Uplearning Classes.
Maury is survived by his daughter, Lenora Jane Baker of Muncie; son, Gordon Dale Mann of Muncie; granddaughters, Emily Carson Edmond of Oklahoma and Rachael Baker of Muncie; great-grandchildren, Blake Thomas Carson, Olivia Carson, and Asher Matthew Bernard Conley. Also, family; Anita Luke (Frank) of West Lafayette, and Jeryl Downey of Albuquerque, NM.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Marilou; his parents, John and Leora; an infant son, Howard Wayne Mann; two sisters, Catharine Lee (Lowell) and Ethel Downey (George).
Friends and family may call Thursday, August 5, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 6401 West River Road, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
Services will be held Friday, August 6, 2021, at 12:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, with calling one hour prior to the service.
Graveside services with Military Honors will immediately follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
