He was born on Wednesday, July 24, 1929, in Newton, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Dorthy (Harper) Swearingen.
John proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He retired from Delco Battery of Muncie, Indiana after thirty years of service.
John enjoyed playing golf and was very proud that he got two holes-in-one. He was also an avid bowler and an avid Cub's fan. He also was a jack of all trades.
John is survived by his son, John Douglas (Sue) Swearingen; daughters, Diania (Max) Weaver, Jennifer (Steve) Stone, Pam (Randy) Jeffris, and Peggy (Jay) Church; brothers, Ronney (Charlotte) Swearingen and Mickey (Alice) Swearingen; sister, Mildred Hearn; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Velma Swearingen; son, Steve Swearingen; daughter, Katherine Swearingen.
Services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304 at 1:00 p.m. Military rites will be provided by the Delaware County Honor Guard.
Visitation will be at Elm Ridge Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m.
Burial will immediately follow at Elm Ridge Memorial Park.
