Scotty was the loving father of his only child, Melena A. Slaven. He is fondly remembered by his surviving sisters—Alta Burk, Tress Staley, Carol Mobley, and Betty Kirk— and beloved cat, Annie. In loving memory of his brothers, Ralph, Thomas, and Robert, as well as his sisters, Anna Konkle and Ruth Shook.
An avid painter, inspired by the gentle style of Bob Ross, Scotty found solace in the world of art. His canvases and creative endeavors reflected not only his skill, but also his warm, generous spirit. Beyond painting, Scotty was a talented leather artist and belt maker, crafting unique pieces that showcased his meticulous workmanship and artistic flair.
He was well-known in his community for his compassionate care for all living beings. He looked after the stray cats of his neighborhood and lovingly prepared cornbread and cake for the squirrels, opossums, and raccoons. Ever mindful of nature, he always made sure the birds were well fed.
Deeply rooted in his faith, Scotty was a member of Full Gospel Temple and loved the Lord. After a dedicated 37-year career at Borg-Warner Automotive, he retired with gratitude for the experiences and relationships forged during his professional journey. His colleagues and community alike remember him as a funny, vibrant character whose humor and warmth could brighten any room.
Scotty Slaven’s legacy of art, compassion, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his kindness and creativity.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 3 to 7 pm, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Ave., Muncie, IN 47304. Scotty will be laid to rest in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARF, 1209 W. Riggin Rd., Muncie, IN 47303.
