

He was born Saturday, November 8, 1941, in Muncie, Indiana, to the late Herbert Monroe Holaday Sr. and Dora (Jordan) Holaday-Clevenger.
Herbert graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1959. He went to Ball State University for one year, and Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, for eighteen months. Herbert returned home to Muncie, where he started working for General Motors in Muncie. He was then drafted into the Army and served two years from 1967-1969 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. When he returned home, he resumed working for General Motors, and retired after thirty-seven years.
Herbert’s interests include bowling on several leagues for the past thirty-five years. He also enjoyed singing karaoke at the Buttonhole Bar, and his favorite song was Mona Lisa Lost Her Smile by David Alan Coe. He also enjoyed songs by Elvis and Willie Nelson.
Herbert is survived by his sons, Brad (Judi) Swift, Chuck (Barb) Swift, and Kenny Swift; cousins, Tom (Cindy) Spangler, Tim (Carol) Spangler, Mike (Cheryl) Spangler, and Ann Holaday Mace; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren; and special friends, Lowell and Charlene Huffman, and Joann Pearce.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Jo; his parents, a sister, Fran Pierce; three daughters, Brenda Swift, Karen Whitcomb, and Shawnda Miller; two sons, Trey Holaday and David Swift; and one grandson, Jeremy Swift.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 9, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, a mask is required as well as social distancing.
Military honors will be conducted by Delaware County Honor Guard. Entombment at Elm Ridge Mausoleum will immediately follow.
