Thomas Ray “T.R., Tommy” Busby, 72, was born February 11, 1942 to Thomas Oliver and Mary Bruney Busby in Lake Charles, LA. He passed away after his short battle with cancer on September 18, 2014.
He attended Gillis High School where he played football, boxed and ran track. Tommy worked on pipelines and heavy equipment. He was owner/operator of Can It Inc., plus other jobs which included a heavy equipment salesman, truck driver and pilot car driver. His upbeat personality will be greatly missed. After being with them almost daily, his was especially close to his two grandsons, Ethan Farquhar and Kole Peloquin, his two rug rats.
After meeting him many years ago, George Jones became his favorite singer. Tommy could sing most of “George’s Songs.”
He married Dianne Stakes on December 21, 1974. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, working and just spending time together.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Stakes Busby; daughters, Avonna Busby Miller and husband Chris of Lake Charles; Veronica Busby Nixon of Katy, TX; sons, Daron Farquhar and wife Christie of Gillis and Channon Busby of Jennings; fourteen grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and sister, Blanche “Sis” Gilley of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his son, Rex Busby; parents and brothers, Melvin, Wilmer and John David “Snookie” Busby.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Kenneth Gilley, David Busby, Quentin Busby and Tony Busby, great nephews, Dwight Gilley, Derrick Busby and Cody Busby.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Clements and Brighton Bridge Hospice for their loving and dedicated care.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Saturday, September 20, 2014 at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. Rev. John Palir will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00pm until 9:00pm and resume Saturday from 9:00am until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Old Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff.
