John Richard Bruno, 91, of Moss Bluff, LA passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2016. He died in the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, LA. He had remained active and independent until a stroke 4 weeks earlier.
He was born on November 13, 1924 to Johnny Charles and Myrtle Finn Bruno in Ged, LA. He graduated from Hackberry High School. He joined the United States Army in February 1943 to serve in World War II. He served in England, France, and Belgium as a truck driver until November 1945.
He worked as an electrician until his retirement at age 65. He spent most of his career with Sonnier Electric. He and his wife traveled extensively with their camper after his retirement. They worked together for many years as members of St. Patrick Hospital’s Auxiliary in Cardiology. He has been a great presence in his daughter’s medical office for the past 12 years, performing office tasks and greeting patients with a kind smile or witty remark. He enjoyed biscuits with friends after Sunday Mass. He enjoyed watching LSU Tigers Football and Baseball, the New Orleans Saints and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed fishing with his son Fred. He was an easy-going man, friendly to all.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeannette Toups Bruno; daughter Brenda Joyce Bruno; sister Mary Elizabeth Choate; and brother, Charles (Mohawk) Bruno.
Mr. Bruno is survived by his son Fred Bruno and wife Pat; son Terry Bruno and wife Carol; daughter Dr. Sandra Bruno; grandchildren, Chris Bruno and wife Rachelle, Dane Duhon and wife Nickie, Nathan Bruno, Emily Bruno Fruge and husband Jason, Glenn Bruno, and Adrienne Bruno; and 11 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Ronald Lewis, Jr. and the staff at the Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff. Father John Huckaby will officiate. Burial will follow at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly, LA. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home in Moss Bluff on Monday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a rosary at 6:30 pm and will continue on Tuesday from 9 am until leaving to the church.
