Joe was born in Lafayette, La., and he had lived in Lake Charles, and later Moss Bluff for over 60 years. He was a proud veteran, having served his country in the Air Force. Joe’s career was spent working at Conoco for 27 years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Marie “Dot” Romero Fontenot; two sons, Joel Fontenot Jr. (Punter) currently residing in Florida and his wife, Susan Fontenot, and Anthony Fontenot of Moss Bluff, and his wife Rene’ Fontenot, and one daughter, Michelle Fontenot Jones of Moss Bluff, and her husband Greg Jones.
Surviving grandchildren are Joel Fontenot III (Trey) and his wife Bailey Fontenot, Brandi Fontenot Davis and her husband William Davis II, Jared Jones, Austin James Jones (A.J.) and his wife, Erin Jones, Kyle Jones, Ty Fontenot, Madison Fontenot and Abby Grace Fontenot. He is survived by three great-grandchildren: Kennedy Fontenot, Harper Fontenot, Sue Lynn Davis, with another blessing on its way.
He is also survived by his siblings: Bobby Ray Fontenot and his wife Linda, Linda Faye Fontenot-Moore, Ronald Lee Fontenot and his wife Joy, Vickie Ann Fontenot-Hebert and her husband Roger Dale, Betty Lou Fontenot-Doyle, and David Brian Fontenot and his wife Tina. He is preceded in death by his mother Lilian Guidry Fontenot and his father Nesley Fontenot.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, at Hixon’s Chapel in Moss Bluff. Msgr. Dubois will officiate. Burial will be in Ritchie Cemetery in Moss Bluff, under the direction of Hixon’s Funeral Home.
