She was born in Eunice and lived in Basile prior to moving to Lake Charles in 1961. She was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society and taught Catechism in Basile and in Lake Charles. She was an officer in the Woodman of the World. She served as a court reporter and a substitute teacher. She also wrote articles that were published throughout the United States. She was an avid collector and flea market attendee. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her sons, Rufus Ray Fruge Jr. and wife, Ruth of Moss Bluff and Richard Wayne Fruge and wife, Janet of Gray, Georgia; daughter, Teresa F. Matt of Lake Charles; 6 grandchildren and 11 great, grandchildren. The family would like to extend their appreciation to Brighton Bridge Hospice and Grand Cove.
Her funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. A graveside service will be held later that day at 1 p.m. in the St. Augustine Mausoleum in Basile, LA. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Sunday from 4-9 p.m. and will resume Monday, at the church, from 9 a.m. til the start of service. Rosary will be prayed Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic School or the charity of their choice.
