He lived in Hemphill, TX on Toledo Bend Lake for 25 years before moving to Moss Bluff about 8 years ago. Before retiring from the Ironworkers Union he worked on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Calcasieu River Bridge, and the Conway LeBleu Bridge. He was the first person to walk across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge after its completion. He was a construction worker in the local refineries. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and duck hunting.
He is survived by his sons, Anthony Martin and wife, Linda of Many, Henry James Martin of Jennings; daughters, Janice Martin, Loretta Martin and Vanessa Martin all of Sulphur; sister, Verna Rose McDaniel of Lake Charles; 11 grandchildren; 16 great, grandchildren and 30 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Martin; 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
His funeral will be 10:30 Friday at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. Msgr. Charles Dubois will officiate. Burial will be in Westlake Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff on Thursday from 3-10 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. and again on Friday from 8 a.m. til 10:15 a.m. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
