Larry Gilstrap, Sr., 89, of Mossyrock, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Morton General Hospital. He was born on February 12, 1927 in Cardin, Oklahoma, to Kin and Effie Gilstrap. Larry joined the United States Army during WWII and he was deployed to Germany as part of the Infantry; he received the Victory Medal and was honorably discharged. When Larry returned State-side he began working as a Log Truck Driver. He continued his career and retired after 50 years. In 1955, Larry married Janet and they were married until her passing in 1979. Larry enjoyed guns, western movies, traveling to see his children and grandchildren, and going to Elko, Nevada.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Bertha, and their sons, Danny, and Lonny; second wife, Janet, and their son, Mike Gilstrap, and daughter, Colleen Ward. He is survived by his children, Kathy Leifer, Vicky Nyman, Patty Dalman, Larry Lee Gilstrap, and Scott Gilstrap, numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Dewitt Lewis. Larry will be remembered for his sarcastic yet heartwarming humor – family gatherings will not be the same without him.
An inurnment service with Military Funeral Honors will be at 2:00pm, Friday, June 10, 2016, at Doss Cemetery in Mossyrock. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Mortuary Service Morton Chapel.
