Mary Phyllis Adkins, 96, passed peacefully at home on April 16,2024. Phyllis, as she was known by friends and family, was born on 12-7-1927 in Red Jacket, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late O.C. and Katherine Hill.
She grew up in West Virginia where she met and married her late husband, Robert H. Adkins. The couple had 4 daughters: Brenda Westman Kukla (Geoff), Judith Jordan (Gary), Rebecca Ogden (Ken), and Debra Farmer (Jack Sochor).
Phyllis had 6 grandchildren: Kathryn Franks (Bart), John Westman (Donna), Ashley Taylor (Buddy), Sarah Shack, Robert Farmer, and Heather Taylor (Andrew). She also leaves behind her much loved great-grandchildren: Kyle Franks, Joseph Farmer, Kemba Shack and Keziah Shack.
She is also survived by her brother Charles Hill (Brenda), sister Gaye Smith, sister-in-law Su Hill, brother-in-law Paul Perry as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Phyllis lived in various places eventually settling in Snellville, Georgia. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she was active in the choir for many years.
Phyllis will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Robert, in Morristown, TN. There will be a viewing on Friday, April 26 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Stubblefield Funeral Home. Graveside services and burial will be on Saturday, April 27 at 12:00 pm in Hamblen Memory Gardens.
