Linda Thompson Newberry, age 64, of Whitesburg passed away April 14th at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on June 8, 1951, Linda was the first of six children born to Norman & Frankie Thompson. Linda married Alan Newberry in 1970 and together they had two children: Robert Alan II & Amiee Elizabeth. Linda had a Bachelors in Education from the University of Tennessee and a Masters in Special Education from the University of Kentucky. Throughout her teaching career, she touched thousands of lives across several states. Linda finished her teaching career at Cherokee High School where she was a Special Education teacher in the 9th grade Academy for the last eight years. Linda lived her life joyfully, always with a smile on her face and a goal to make everyone around her happy. Her free-spirit and love of life was contagious and made everyone she encountered feel loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norman & Frankie Slayton Thompson; brother, Jerry Thompson; and brother-in-law, Jim Greene. Linda is survived by her children, Rob & Amiee Newberry; sisters, Deanie Greene & Debbie (Mike) Byrd; brothers, Mark Thompson & Robin (Vicki) Thompson; uncle and aunt, Wade and Jackie Slayton; and several nieces, nephews, and many special friends and loved ones. A celebration of Linda's life will take place on Saturday April 23rd at 2pm at Hope at the Gap in Bulls Gap.
