George Lee Shepard, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Russellville on Wednesday, December 9, 2015. George was born on January 10, 1923 in Hamblen County to the late Walter and Mayme Shepard. George was a veteran who had served in Europe during World War II. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Morristown. George was a retired truck driver. He was among the first members of the Morristown Rescue Squad where he served for 25 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Blaine, Dal, Paul, Rufus, William, and David Shepard; his sister, “Sis”; son-in-law, Bobby Mayes; and great-grandson, Matthew Mayes. George is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ann Stephens Shepard; his children, Diane Mayes, Jerry (Patty) Shepard, and Sue (Robert) Bruce; six grandchildren, Alan Mayes, David Mayes, Lee Shepard, Rodney Shepard, Todd Bruce, and Kelly Bruce Hamlett; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Johnny Shepard. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home on Saturday, December 12th at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. James Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the services at the funeral home. Stubblefield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
