George Robert Mathes

George R Mathes, age 77, of Morristown, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at Parkwest Hospital. He attended Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served during the Vietnam Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Robert and Hazel Mathes; brother, JD Mathes; sister, Vivian Blair and a grandson, Geoffrey Edward Short Mathes.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ann Mathes; children, DeWayne (Jay) Morgan, Lynn (Amy) Mathes, Kim Mathes; brother, Mayford Mathes; sisters, Grace Stephen, Fleeta Mathes, Donna Mathes; adopted son, Brian (Tina) Elderidge; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family can come by the funeral home between 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020. Funeral services will be held at Shady Grove Free Will Baptist Church on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Donnie Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Hamblen Memory Gardens. Military honors will be provided by VFW Post #5266.
