Dr. Emogene Whitt Dotson, 87 of Bean Station, TN passed away January 22, 2019 at Autumn Care Assisted Living in Knoxville. Dr. Dotson was born in Brooksville, Mississippi on April 16, 1931 to the late James Anderson Whitt and the late Nona Belle Keller Whitt.
Dr. Dotson is preceded in death by her parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Dottie) and B.B. Golden of Hattiesburg, MS; and by her loving husband of 30 years, Dr. Ben Roger Dotson. Emogene Dotson is survived by one daughter, Julie Jasper of Winter Park, FL; a stepson and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karen Dotson of Knoxville, TN; and a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Queen of Logan, WV. She is also survived by three step grandchildren, Jamen Allen of Raleigh, NC, Jennifer Harvey and Jeremy Queen; and one step great-grandchild, Camryn Harvey, all of Logan, WV.
Dr. Dotson moved to East Tennessee 1974 to establish the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Walters State Community College. Under her leadership, the nursing program became regionally and nationally recognized and accredited. The program graduated over 1,500 nurses during her 19-year career.
Dr. Dotson retired in 1993. She and her husband operated a beef cattle farm in Bean Station where she enjoyed time with her husband, her garden, her flowers and her puppies. Dr. Dotson made her home in Knoxville for the last six years near her stepson and daughter-in-law following the passing of her husband. Scott and Karen Dotson wish to acknowledge the supportive care and assistance from the staff of Atria Weston Place and Autumn Care Assisted Living during those years. They also wish to thank the staff at Covenant Hospice. Although retired, Emogene never stopped being a nurse. She was often seen helping other assisted living residents needing assistance with mobility issues or just being a supportive friend.
The family will receive friends at Stubblefield Funeral Home, 5421 E. Andrew Johnson Highway, Morristown, TN on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. with a memorial service to follow. Graveside memorial services will be held at Hamblen Memory Gardens, Morristown on Sunday, January 27th at 2 P.M. The family asks in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation be made to the Bean Station Public Library, 895 Broadway Drive, Bean Station, TN 37708.
