Ruth Burns Burns Hunter

Mrs. Ruth Hunter, age 98, of Morganton, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Kate B Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. She was born the daughter of the Late Martin L Burns and Maybell Harris Burns on November 20, 1917 in Burke County.

Throughout the years, Ruth remained an active member of North Morganton Baptist Church. She worked as a seamstress at Shadowline Women’s Apparel for 32 years. Even upon retirement, Ruth maintained her independence through physical activity and her quick wit. She was sweet, kind, funny and considerate, and no one ever left Ruth’s house hungry.

Along with her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Charles Hunter.

Ruth is survived by her loving daughter, Becky Etheridge; two brothers, Martin and Ray Burns; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at North Morganton Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Baker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Entombment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Kate B Reynolds Hospice House, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
