May “Alice” Johnson, 93, of Morganton, NC, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Carolina Health Systems Blue Ridge Hospital in Morganton.
Mrs. Johnson was born on August 22, 1924, in Washington D.C., to the late Louis Washington Gray and Margaret Robey Gray.
She was a member of Silver Creek Baptist Church in Morganton. Mrs. Johnson loved her church and church family and she was a Sunday school teacher, as well as a homemaker.
Alice was a very loving and caring, mother and grandmother, and great- grandmother, who had a beautiful spirit. She loved her family and friends very much. She cared for the sick, and was diligent about sending cards of encouragement to them. She was a people person who never met a stranger and she thrived on socializing and being with people.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband, Julius Johnson; a brother, Louis Russell Gray, and a sister, Mary LaMeau.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her three children, Patricia (Steve) Branam, James Johnson, and Kathy (Michael) Rogers, all of Morganton; two grandchildren, Jennifer Rogers (Robert) Grycki and Anna Branam, both of Morganton; two nieces, Michele Topalian and Denise Prystash, both of Michigan; two caregivers, who she loved as if they were her own daughters, Freda Bryant and Virgina Decker, both of Morganton; and one great-grandchild, Rachel Marie Grycki, of Morganton, who was the “love of her heart”.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at 3:00 PM, at Silver Creek Baptist Church in Morganton, with Pastor Larry Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Silver Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Morganton.
