Minister Laura Francis Corpening Ervin, 71 of Morganton, North Carolina was called home by her Lord and Savior Tuesday, August 11, 2020. She was born March 12, 1949 in Burke County to the late Earl Corpening and the Rev. Annie Bell Corpening.
At an early age Laura accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior and joined Saint James Church of God. She was an active member of the church choir and Sunday School. She also attended Vacation Bible School at all of the area churches. As Laura grew in faith she took on more leadership responsibilities in the church. She served as Church Treasurer and go to person. Laura was licensed to preach the gospel under the leadership of Pastor Lillian Hunter and ordained by Bishop W. O. McCullough, Sr.
Minister Ervin peached with zeal, warning all that the wages of sin is death: but the gift of God is eternal Life. She stressed being "real" during her Christian journey.
Laura received her education from the Burke County School System at Oak Hill Elementary School and Olive Hill High School. She worked as a Health Care Technician for North Carolina School for the Deaf, Skill Creation, Western Carolina Center, and Foster Grandparent, she also worked with Foothill's Thrift Shop.
Laura was married to Woodrow Ervin, Jr., and from this union they were blessed with two sons; the late Wesley C. Ervin, and Travis Ervin.
Including her father and son, Laura was preceded in death by tow brothers, Robert Lee Darty, and Robert Earl Corpening.
Laura will be forever remembered and is survived by her husband Woodrow Ervin, Jr., son, Travis Ervin (Kathy) of Sevierville, TN, two grandsons; Tyson Ervin, and Nickolas Johnson; mother, Rev. Annie Bell Corpening; two sisters, Shirley C. Fields, and Betty Caldwell, two brothers; Phifer Kenny Corpening (Sarah) and Alexander Corpening (Martha); three uncles, Hugh Corpening (Lula), James Corpening (Eloise) and William Caldwell; four sister-in-law's, Ann R. Darty, Ann A. Jackson, Mary McGill, and Kay Miller (Donald), daughter-in-law; Nikki Ervin; goddaughter, Elder Kiya Hightower, two special friends; Bishop Aaron S. Hooper, and Evangelist Cecelia Surratt, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
