Mrs. Ethel Camey O’Neil Tate went home to be with the Lord, November 8, 2017. Ethel was born to the late Will and Ella O’Neil on June 22, 1924 in Burke County, NC. She was a lifelong member of CCMB Church in Glen Alpine, where she was a member of the Gospel Choir, served as an usher, and was a long time Sunday school member. She was one of the oldest members of the church. She worked at Drexel Furniture Company for 30 years, and after retirement, she served as a Foster Grandparent at Western Carolina Center for 10 years.
Along with her parents, Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Johnson E. Tate, daughter, Ola Tate Corpening, four brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; daughters, Margaret Tate Deck (James) of Union Mills, Mary Tate Carpenter (Tommy) of Morganton, Faye Tate Wright, of Morganton, Mamie Tate (Gerald Fant) of Morganton, Deborah Tate Thomas (Paul) of Loganville, GA, Barbara Jean Tate Rose of Montgomery, AL, sons, Robert Tate (Margaret) of Morganton, and Butch Tate (Sarah) of Morganton. In addition to her children, she is survived by twenty-three grandchildren, forty-eight great children, and eight great-great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be made to the CCMBC building fund.
