Edward "Jim" Dees

Edward "Jim" Dees, age 91, of Drexel, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 13, 2023. Jim was born to the late Claude Allen Dees and Smithie Edwards Dees on November 14, 1931 in Hope Mills, NC.

Jim was a member of Drexel First Baptist Church. He was a retired schoolteacher and had served in the US Army during the Korean War. Jim enjoyed fishing, coaching football and baseball and working as a medical trainer for sports teams. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Jim will be missed.

Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Those left behind to cherish Jim's memory include his wife of 63 years, Doris N. Dees of the home; two daughters, Linda Dees and Donna Katic (Boris), both of Valdese; a son, Dale Dees (Carrie) of Frederick, MD; six grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, and Lily Dees, Dylan, Bryson and Olivia Katic; a sister, Helen Seadore of Sunset Harbor, Bolivia, NC. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at Drexel First Baptist Church, 200 S. Main Street Drexel, NC 28619. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm with Gene Kirby, Deacon and Minister officiating. Sally Anne Dixion will provide interpreter services for the family. Interment will be held with Military Honors at 12:00 pm on Monday, November 20, 2023 at the Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe, NC.
