He resided at Mountain Manor (now Southern Living for Seniors) in Burnsville, NC for nine years, where he received loving care from many staff members.
He was blessed by many sermons given by Pastor David Gillespie as well as Fritz and Joy Young and all those who sang and provided music at the home. C.R. was born in Cusseta, Georgia to Clifford Roy Mehaffey Jr and Louise Perdue Mehaffey.
He was a US Navy veteran serving 1951-1955 in the Korean War. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation (European Clasp) and National Defense Service Medal. C.R. is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Barbara Drew Mehaffey,his sister, Betty Adams and his brother, Harold Mehaffey and granddaughter, Erin Brenna Johnson.
Surviving are his brother Louis Mehaffey, wife Mary of Florida and niece Laura, his sister Myra Butler, nephew George Butler IV both of Homestead, Florida and his sister, Eleanor Hargett of Atlanta, Georgia, nieces Linda, Susan, Betty and Cindy. Also surviving are his half-brother, Mike Mehaffey as well as nephews, Jack Adams, Lester Mehaffey, Jr and nieces, Elizabeth Stevens, Elaine Masciovecchio and Leslie Ann Mehaffey. C.R.'s surviving children are Sylvia Arlene Johnson and husband Dwight of Burnsville, NC, Roy Mehaffey IV of Columbia, SC and Jeannine Amelia Mehaffey also of Columbia, SC. Also four grandchildren: Jeremiah Johnson and wife, Angela, Gabriel Johnson and wife, Leah, Victoria Ingram and husband Robert, Jesse Johnson and wife Brittany and three great-grandchildren: Hannah, Selah and Boone. Arrangements for a small family gathering will be made at a later date. Donations may be made in memory of C.R. to Hospice of Yancey County, Samaritan's Purse, and Feed-A-Child of Yancey County.
