Carol Jean Meader~Gilliam, daughter of the late Robert C. Meader and Marian L. Carlson Meader was born March 31, 1945 in Benton Harbor Michigan. They moved to Ormond Beach, FL when Carol was 14 years old. She attended Mainland High School where she graduated in 1963, and Daytona Beach Community College. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of a Latter Day Saints and remained committed to her Savior throughout her life, dedicating her life to one of motherhood and “service”.
Carol met and married the love of her life, McLaurin Briggs Gilliam, January 25, 1864 Together they had 12 children whom they raised in Florida and North Carolina. Carol was a homemaker and more than anything, loved being a mother and grandmother. She was industrious, and always worked hard to make a house a home for her family. Carol was a member of LDS church and enjoyed her time in the Marion, and Morganton Wards where she served in many callings throughout the years. Carol quietly departed this life on Thursday, May 19, 2022 after a short battle with cancer.
Her beautiful life will forever be threaded in the lives of her family who are left awaiting a glorious reunion; husband, McLaurin Briggs Gilliam, Jr. of Glen Alpine, NC. Children; Kristen L. Powell and son-n-law Billy Powell of Daytona Beach, Fl, McLaurin Briggs Gilliam, III of Hartford, TN, Jennie G. Kurono of Glen, Alpine, NC, Aimee G. Jenkins and son-n-law Scott Jenkins of Ringgold, VA, Robert C. Gilliam and daughter-n-law Cecelia Gilliam of Garner, NC, Adam C. Gilliam, and daughter-n-law Trish Gilliam of Port St. Lucie, Fl, Allison G. Elliott of Marion, NC, Katherine G. Murray, and son-n-law Michael Murray of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Kelly T. Gilliam of Glen Alpine, NC, Kendra R. Gilliam of Smithfield, NC, Clay R. Gilliam of Morganton, NC, and Jonathan A. Gilliam of Houston, Texas, twenty-two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Her beloved sister Joanne Meader Murray of Ormond Beach, FL, and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Carol will be buried with her parents in a graveside service at Volusia Memorial Park, 548 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach, Florida on May 31st at 10:30 am. A celebration of life was held in her sweet home in Glen Alpine, NC on May 21st.“Her candle will burn out one day, but it will leave a lasting glow.”
