Mrs. Annie Lee Cobb Trent Smith, 82, of Morganton, went to be with the Lord, Friday, December 3, 2010, while at Grace Hospital, Morganton. Born April 5, 1928, in Burke County, She was a daughter of the late William Cobb and Claudia Louise Benfield Cobb. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by two husbands, Grant W. Trent and Horace Clifton “John” Smith, three brothers, two sisters, five half-brothers and three half-sisters. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She retired after30 years service with the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier. Mrs. Smith loved to help anyone in need and will be remembered by all the lives that she touched.
She will lovingly be remembered by a son, William Robert Trent, of Morganton;
a daughter, Rita T. DeVinney & husband, William Reid DeVinney, of Morganton;
three stepdaughters, Wanda Allman & husband, Ron Allman , Patricia Clark all of Morganton and Marva Lou Alder, of West Hartford, CT;
a sister, Addie Davis & husband, Rufus of Tenille, GA
a grandson, William Trent DeVinney & wife, Tahera, of Morganton;
two step-grandchildren, Eddie Davis & Crystal Nogales, both of Morganton
three great grandchildren, Madison DeVinney, Andrew DeVinney and Cooper DeVinney;
many nieces, nephews and friends and her beloved pet, “Peanut” will also lovingly remember her.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 5, 2010, in the Chapel of Kirksey Funeral Home, Morganton, with the Reverend Isaac Propst officiating. Interment will follow at the Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Smith’s memory to the charity of one’s choice.
