William James Pitts

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church 507 Fourth Street Morgan City, Louisiana. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

William James “Willie” Pitts was born June 11, 1953, to the late Loretha Hampton and the late Louis Pitts Sr. in Independence, Louisiana.

William accepted Christ in his life at St. Luke Baptist, Patterson, Louisiana, under the leadership of his godfather, Reverend Joseph Fields. He moved his membership to Second Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Tommy J. Hanner. William worked faithfully to help build Second Missionary Baptist Church from the first day the doors open. He continued to be a faithful servant at Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ivy Wilson. He devoted countless hours to the deacon board and moved on to become a minister.

William was well known in the surrounding areas and beyond as an A+ welder. All you had to do was show him a picture or give him a vision and he took it and ran with it. Most of you who knew William, can attest that he had a heart of gold and could not say “No” to anyone. He and his wife Brenda did not miss a Thanksgiving or Christmas providing meals to the homeless.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 39 years, Brenda McClendon Pitts of Centerville, Louisiana; a son, Victor McClendon of Morgan City, Louisiana; eight brothers, Ray (Joanne) Pitts, Louis Pitts, Jr., and Haywood Pitts, all of New Orleans, Louisiana, Charles (Shirley) Pitts and Hollis (Becky) Pitts, both of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Mack (Shelly) Pitts of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Larry Pitts of Pontchatoula, Louisiana and Calvin (Nell) Pitts of Independence, Louisiana; seven sisters, Estelle Pitts Selders, Jessie Mae Pitts, Shawn Carter, and Delores Hampton, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Alberteen Pitts and Betty Jean Pitts, both of Thibodaux, Louisiana, and Rosa Patterson of Bossier City, Louisiana; and Avis Clemons, who he looked at as his daughter; eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren; along with a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loretha Hampton and Louis Pitts, Sr.; his siblings, Gloria Ewiell, Mae Helen Martin, John Pitts, and Jeanette Pitts.
