Marjorie Christensen Lavine, 94, a longtime resident of Morgan City, went home to be with her Lord on October 5, 2022 after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be held October 7, 2022 from 8:30am to 10am at Hargrave Funeral Home with Funeral Services at 10am. Burial will follow at Morgan City Cemetery. The Reverend Steve Kelly of Bayou Vista Baptist Church will conduct services.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Robert Walter Lavine, her parents George and Bertha Christensen, her sisters Marie Knudson and Johanna Stocker, and three brothers David, Alan, and Kenny Christensen. She is survived by her two children Johanna Olivier (Don) and Walter Lavine (Sherry), her grandchildren Kimberly Olivier and Donnie Olivier (Jamilah), her great-grandchildren Brynn Olivier and Ethan Olivier, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Marjorie was a native of Racine, Wisconsin. It was there at home in Wisconsin that she met her husband-to-be who was serving in the Navy. After their first date, he called his mom in Louisiana and told her that Marjorie was the girl that he was going to marry. Prior to Robert’s passing Marjorie would serenade him with their favorite love song “I Love You, a Bushel and a Peck.” Marjorie loved music and singing. Her favorite hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” She also led the children’s choir at her church. She was not shy about singing these precious songs to anyone who was near her.
An avid reader and book collector, Marjorie especially enjoyed history and anything about Ireland. She shared her joy of reading with many children through participating in community and education programs to promote reading. She packed neighborhood children into her car to bring them to the Morgan City Public Library where she read to them. She volunteered to listen to children read in the Listening Program at M.E. Norman Elementary School. She also enjoyed working with Delores Henderson in the Housing Authority Summer Reading Program.
A beautiful lady with the clear blue eyes of her Danish and Swedish heritage, Marjorie was a friendly, outgoing person who loved visiting with family and friends.
Pallbearers serving are Tucker Manuel, Carl Kraemer, Don Olivier, Donnie Olivier, Dudley Nosworthy and Brandon Fears. Honorary Pallbearers are Donald LaJaunie, Dede Aucoin, Henry LeRay and Emmett Hardaway.
The family wishes to thank Marjorie’s caregivers who lovingly cared for both her and her husband through their lengthy illnesses and also extends gratitude to Stat Home Health and St. Joseph Hospice for their kind assistance.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marjorie’s name can be made to the Morgan City Public Library, 220 Everett St. Morgan City, LA 70380.
