Floyd Joseph Verret, 76, a native of Bayou Chene and a resident of Bayou Vista, departed this life on Tuesday October 9, 2012 at 4:25 AM after a long courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Saucier Verret, his son Chad J. Verret and his wife Cheryl of Richmond ,Tx; his daughter Tulonna V. Oliver and her husband Jim of Lake Charles; and his daughter-in-law Mechille Verret, of Bayou Vista.
Floyd is also survived by three sisters, Velma Williams and her husband Eldridge of Morgan City; Alberta LeBlanc of Bayou Vista; and Lois Giroir of Amelia; two brothers, Russel Verret and his wife Mary of Labadieville; and Albert Verret of Amelia; and five granddaughters and five grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents Curtis and Althea Verret and his son Mel Verret.
Floyd retired from Tidewater Marine after 29 years of employment. He served 11 years on the Board of Commissioners of Sewerage District 5 and 8. He also served proudly in the United States Army. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and the Bayou Vista Ultreya.
Floyd’s motto in life was to always put God first, others second, and himself third.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 6 pm until 9 pm with a Rosary service at 7 pm. Visitation will continue at 9 am at Hargrave Funeral Home Friday, October 12, 2012. Dismissal will begin at 1.30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 2:00 pm. Floyd will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in Patterson.
In lieu of flowers donations be made in memorize of Mr. Floyd to St. Bernadette Catholic Church, for mass intentions.
