Bruce was born March 18, 1948 in Bridgeport, CT and lived with his loving family in Long Island, New York. After completing high school, Bruce served in the Army infantry In the Vietnam War. On his return in 1969 he began his college career in Nassau County, NY. He then emigrated to California in 1974 where he completed his degree in Psychology.
Because of his compassion and understanding of the many challenges facing veterans of military service, Bruce chose to dedicate a large part of his life ministering to patients at the veteran’s hospital in Loma Linda, CA. As a certified Chaplain he listened to the struggles of so many of our nation’s military. Bruce prayed faithfully for all those he met with and showed them the love of Christ.
Following the death of his father, as a devoted son, in 1984 Bruce resigned his counseling job at a boys’ ranch and moved in with his mother. In that situation he was able to help support not only his mother but several of his nieces and nephews, sharing his wisdom, opinions and support. Bruce’s mother was diagnosed with cancer in 1999, and until her death in July of 2010, his role became both her companion and her main caregiver. During that time and after, he followed in her footsteps and became a prayer warrior for every family member as well as friends and those he served at the hospital.
Bruce is survived by Sister Michele and John Novinsky, sister Gail and Arthur Rose, sister Lauren Waltemeyer, brother Michael and Kathy Mattei, and sister-in-law Stephanie Mattei, widow of deceased brother Robert, as well as 16 beloved nieces and nephews.
