Sharon Ann Lape, a resident of Peekskill, NY, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 71 years old. Sharon was born on August 10, 1952 in Peekskill, NY to Harry and Delia (Hayes) VanTil. She was a 1970 graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School.
On May 5th, 1973 Sharon married the love of her life Wayne Lape. They have been married for over 50 years. After getting married they welcomed 2 daughters Shannon and Ashley. Then in 2007 they welcomed a beautiful granddaughter Saharrah Marie. She loved her family with all her heart and soul and would do anything for them.
She loved the beach & warm weather, gardening and taking care of plants, feeding her fur kids (squirrels & birds), Motown music, Celine Dion and many other artists. Going to Saharrah’s school sports & dancing events. She would love to dance at any gathering that had music. Sometime she had too much fun dancing on the tables at some of these. She was a dedicated reader of Danielle Steel novels. She had a wealth of knowledge about jewelry, gemstones and all things created by mother earth. She loved spoiling her daughters dog Bella with more treats than that dog could eat. If you knew Sharon, you know that ever holiday would include her favorite side dish of Stouffer’s Macaroni & Cheese, which most of the younger kids always fought to get more of. There are many things Sharon loved to do.
Before her retirement, she worked as a Teacher’s Aide for Peekskill School District. Over the years, she worked for The Veteran Affairs in Montrose and Arthur Weeks Jewelers in Peekskill. Sharon and her husband Wayne are the former Owners of Chippies Fruit & Vegetable Store in the Peekskill Shopping Center on Main Street.
Sharon was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cortlandt Engine. Company. She was also a lifetime member of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Peekskill and over the years she would change the alter linens for the different holidays and seasons.
She is survived by her loving & devoted husband, Wayne Lape, her daughters Shannon & Rob (Son in Law) and Ashley & Dave (Fiancé) and granddaughter Saharrah Marie. She’s also survived by her father Harry J. VanTil, Sisters and Brothers - Melanie VanTil, Joanne (Tommy) Zeoli, Keith (Tina) VanTil & Kevin (Joanna) VanTil.
Nieces & nephews: Justin (Lesley) Polomcean, Alexis Agosta, Michael (Kim) Zeoli, Bryan (Desiree) Zeoli, Christopher & Madison VanTil. Great Nieces & Nephews: Reagan & Brielle Polomcean, Mera, Brayden, Freya & Jacob Zeoli. Mother-in-Law: Lorraine Lape, Brother-in-Laws: Donald (Helen) Lape, James (Leigh) Lape. Along with countless cousins, family and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother, Delia VanTil & grandmother, Inez Depew, father-in-law, Donald J. Lape Sr. along with many other family members.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13th from 2-4 & 7-9pm at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY 10548. A prayer service is scheduled for Thursday, March 14th at 10am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 101 Mill St, Putnam Valley, NY 10579.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to The American Lung Association, The National MS (Multiple Sclerosis Society) or any of your choice.
