Juan E. O’Neill passed away on September 13, 2021 at 90 years of age. Born March 8, 1931 he is survived by his wife Heloise O’Neill, children Denise O’Neill, Elizabeth O’Neill, Margaret Wheeler, and John O’Neill, grandchildren Fitz and Olivia Paccione, sisters Millie O’Neill and Mahara Santana, nephews Edward Allen, Matthew Allen and his children, niece Jaime Bunker and her children.
Juan served in the 65th Infantry Unit, The Borinqueneers, in the Korean War and in 2016 the unit was awarded The Congressional Medal of Honor for their service. Throughout his life Juan was an active member of the American Legion and participated in annual parades honoring veterans and their families.
Juan moved from the Bronx to Croton-On-Hudson in 1964 with Heloise and their children. He worked at General Motors in Tarrytown for over thirty years. In his retirement, Juan and Heloise traveled the United States, exploring historical parks, sites and monuments.
A dedicated family man with a generous heart, Juan was socially active in the community. In particular, he took a special interest in the local VA to assist the programs for returning veterans.
Juan loved music, he was singing opera in his final days. In their younger years, you’d always catch Juan and Heloise on the dance floor. Their love and devotion to each other stood the test of time and was an example of true love to their family.
He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5 to 8 PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, located at 170 Kings Ferry Road, Montrose, NY 10548. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 10 AM at St. Christopher’s Church, located at 3094 Albany Post Road, Buchanan, NY 10511 and entombment with military honors will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, located at 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY 10579.
