Ida Santi

Ida was born in Pessola, (Parma) Italy, to Angelo and Louise Maestri and immigrated to New York City at the age of 15. She quickly learned English and embraced her new life with enthusiasm. In 1953, she married Romolo Santi, and together they made their home in North Tarrytown, NY, for more than 40 years. Ida worked as a caregiver for the elderly and disabled and later as a parking enforcement officer for the Sleepy Hollow Police Department.

Ida found great joy in cooking and entertaining family and friends nearly every weekend. She loved dancing, particularly to Italian accordion music, and cherished the company of her paisans. Known for her infectious sense of humor and her ability to bring joy to others, she was adored by all who knew her.

A devoted wife, loving mother, exceptional grandmother, and loyal friend, Ida was the youngest of eight Maestri siblings and the final to depart, leaving a cherished legacy as the family matriarch. She is survived by her two daughters, Lucia Santi-Exley (John) of Oxford, England, and Lori Nania of Montrose, NY; her beloved grandchildren, Amy Rodak (Zach) and Eric Nania, who brought her immense joy. She was predeceased by her husband, Romolo (1986), her brothers Giovanni, Enrico, Luigi, and Antoine, her sisters Francesca Bozelli, Maria Leni, and Teresa Meri, as well as many dear family members and friends.

Ida’s unwavering faith in God was central to her life, and she was a devoted parishioner of St. Christopher Church in Buchanan, NY. She was a dedicated supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and donations in her memory would be greatly appreciated. While her presence will be sorely missed, the memories she created over 93 wonderful years will continue to bring comfort and smiles.

To honor her remarkable life and celebrate her peace with her Creator, visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home in Montrose from 3-7 PM. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Christopher Church in Buchanan at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
