Dawn C. Engel

Dawn Chase Engel was born in Peekskill, NY on June 19, 1931 to the late Georgia and James Chase of Buchanan, NY. She graduated Hendrick Hudson High School in 1948. On April 13, 1952, she married William (Bill) E. Engel, Sr. in Montrose, NY. Dawn worked as a secretary for Hendrick Hudson High School from 1950-1954 and the Van Cortlandtville Elementary School from 1965 to 1986, when she retired. Dawn and Bill raised their family and made their home in the Peekskill area until 1988, when they moved to Ballston Lake, NY. Their upstate NY home was a family gathering point for years, where generations of Engels learned to share Dawn and Bill’s love for the lake. Family weekends occurred every summer for forty-eight years. In 1992, they began spending winters in Ft. Myers, FL. Dawn traveled throughout her retirement to the Caribbean, Europe, and the Western United States. She cherished her visits to her brother Jim’s home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Dawn is predeceased by her husband, Bill, of forty-eight years and a son, Brad. She is survived by a son, William (Bill) E. Engel, Jr., and his wife, Holly Vegas, of Saratoga Springs, NY; two grandsons, Brian, of Washington, DC, and Evan (Katie), of Clifton Park, NY; a great-grandson, Logan; a daughter-in-law, Beth Easly Cerrone, her husband, John Cerrone, and their children, Leah and Kristain Cerrone of Ballston Lake, NY; two brothers, James (Helen) Chase, of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Harry Chase, of Pt. Hueneme, California. Dawn is also lovingly remembered by several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 from 3-7PM at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 170 Kings Ferry Rd., Montrose, NY 10548. Funeral Service will be celebrated 10AM on Saturday, April 14th also at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, Montrose, with burial to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Cortlandt Manor, NY.
