David K. Lewine, a beloved husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2024, in Buchanan, NY, at the age of 89. Born on June 27, 1935, to the late Harold Lewine and Anne (Shurjin) Lewine in Manhattan, NY, David was a man of many talents and passions.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Lavarello, with whom he shared 32 wonderful years, having married on May 26, 2018. David is also survived by his three devoted daughters, Kim McPartland, Marléne Uddén and Barbara Short, as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Rachel.
David proudly served in the Marine Corps from February 1956 to February 1959. During his military service, he and his wife Patricia had 5 children.
In 1984, he took his Yoga Teacher's Training and found a new way of life. He resided on his houseboat in Freeport, NY before eventually settling in the Town of Cortlandt along the picturesque Hudson River.
As an accomplished yogi and yoga instructor, David shared his love for health and wellbeing in a yoga ashram as a vegetarian chef. He went to the ashram every February for 19 years.He was known for his delicious vegetarian cooking, including his famous pizza, "bean mountain", and spicy vegetable with polenta.
