It is with great sadness, I regretfully announce that Lana Marie Galbraith (nee Corkery), of Montreal, Quebec passed away on June 14th, 2020, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She died, with her family by her side. Lana is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Arthur Francis Galbraith, her loving children Drew (Jocelyn), Derek (Kim), Stephanie, Susan (Sandeep), Shaun (Ron), and Darren (Michelle). She will be missed by her 13 grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly (Lana Elinor (Alex), Darren, Geneviève, Arianna, Arthur James, Maya, Lilly, Lena, Kyle, Chloe, Dylan, Jeremy, and Jackson). Lana was the daughter of the late David and Genevieve Corkery, she is also survived by her sister, Shaun Comeau (Paul), her brothers, the late Michael Corkery, and Terence Corkery. She leaves us to be with her son, Daniel Kevin Galbraith (Katia), who predeceased her in 2016. Lana took great pride in her large family who are now all mourning her loss.
Born in St John, New Brunswick, she attended high school at Notre Dame D’Acadie, in Moncton, followed by secretarial school. Lana initially moved to Montreal with her husband Arthur in 1961, then lived briefly in Halifax, before returning to the Montreal area permanently. After raising their children, Lana and Arthur relocated to downtown Montreal, where they remain. Lana and husband Arthur co-parented her eldest grand-daughter and namesake Lana Elinor with her eldest daughter, Stephanie.
Lana was constantly learning and was always curious about other people and cultures. She was a world traveler, and enjoyed exploring Asia, Europe and many parts of North America. Lana was an avid gardener who loved spending summers at her lake house in Vermont. She was also a gifted artist; Lana’s needlepoint pieces will continue to be a legacy for her children and grandchildren to remember her by.
My family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Montreal Toy Tea, an annual event to which she donated to that provided new toys at Christmas to children living in women’s shelters. We also invite you to plant a bed of flowers in your gardens thinking of her.
