Joseph Chen-Yih Wang, age 89, finished his journey on earth peacefully on October 21, 2019 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Joseph graduated from National Taiwan University in 1955 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and married Rosa Yu-Chen Li on September 8, 1956.
After working for an automotive company in Taipei for several years, Joseph was awarded a full scholarship from the Italian government in 1963 to pursue a Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Turin Polytechnic Institute. Upon finishing his graduate studies in Italy, Joseph immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1965 and eventually brought his wife and two children from Taiwan to join him in 1968. The family moved to London, Ontario in 1972. When Joseph finished his Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario in 1981, he and Rosa moved to Montreal where he accepted a position as an Associate Professor of Engineering at Concordia University.
Outside of Joseph’s professional duties, he and his wife were deeply involved in their church, serving in many capacities, attending conferences and trainings across Canada, the U.S. and abroad, and opening their home to receive hundreds of guests over the years.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; his two children and their spouses, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service to honor Joseph’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 3rd at Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges. Visitation hours will be held from 5 PM to 9 PM on Saturday, November 2nd as well as Sunday, November 3rd, from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the same location.
A graveside service will be held on November 7th at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
