He was predeceased by his parents James Edward and Mabel Carroll and most recently his sister Sandra (Alfredo Gentile).
He is survived by brother Gary (Fran) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, brother-in-law Ward Gabeline (Trina) of Burlington, Iowa, sister-in-law Teresa Gabeline of Mill Creek, Washington, several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and raised in Lachine, he attended Bishop Whelan High School and Loyola College. After graduation he began a long and successful career in finance and investments, rising to the position of branch manager at RBC Dominion Securities.
Jack inspired honesty and enthusiasm. He was devoted to his clients and co-workers and mentored many other brokers. Outside the office, Jack was a passionate golfer and a proud member of Royal Montreal Golf Club for close to 50 years. When not on the fairways, he and Donna enjoyed cruising the world and relaxing in Ogunquit, Maine. They shared a love of Thoroughbred horse racing and spent many memorable weeks in Saratoga Springs, New York.
Blessed with Irish charisma, he had a wonderful life, a joyful attitude and charmed everyone with his smile and hearty laugh.
Jack will be sorely missed by Donna and everyone who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday October 24 at Westmount Park United Church, 305 Lansdowne Ave.. Visitation at 1 p.m. and service at 2 p.m.
During a two-year treatment for cancer, Jack received excellent care at the MUHC.
