Carmelita Ruiz, a loving sister and devoted aunt, peacefully departed from this world on September 29, 2023, in Montreal, Canada. She was born on February 6, 1941, in the picturesque Philippines, a land she held close to her heart throughout her life.
Carmelita was a woman of remarkable strength, resilience, and kindness. She dedicated herself to the world of hospitality, becoming a Hotel Supervisor at the renowned Queen Elizabeth Hotel. Her commitment to ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of her guests was unwavering, and her colleagues held her in high regard for her professionalism and grace.
She also held positions in the Philippines at the Malacañyang Presidential Palace,
Caltex Corporation and
The Metropolitan Hospital of Manila.
Her academic pursuits were equally impressive. Carmelita earned her degree in Commerce from Manila University, a testament to her dedication to personal growth and knowledge. She always encouraged others to strive for excellence in their pursuits, just as she had in her own life.
Carmelita was predeceased by her beloved husband, Pranas Vapsys, and her parents, Avelina Saldaña and Alfredo Ruiz. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, as well as a large and loving family. She will be fondly remembered by her siblings: Fernando, Nina, Alfredo Jr., Angelina, Manolo, Benjamin, Bienvenido, and Maria Corazon, each of whom she held dear.
In addition to her siblings, Carmelita's memory will be carried forward by her 24 nieces and nephews, who will forever be inspired by her kindness, wisdom, and generosity.
Carmelita found solace and spiritual nourishment in her faith, attending Church at Saint Patrick's Basilica. Her unwavering devotion to her beliefs was a source of strength and comfort to her throughout her life.
Carmelita Ruiz touched the lives of many with her warm heart, gentle spirit, and indomitable will. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will live on in our hearts.
A celebration Carmelita's life will be held on Tuesday October 3rd at Centre Funéraire Côte-des-Neiges. She will be available for Viewing from 9am to 1pm, during which a service will be held by Deacon Ciaran Pitchford in the Chapel. She will then be laid to rest at the Eulalie-Durocher Mausoleum at the neighbouring Cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges at 2pm.
May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her legacy of love and compassion continue to inspire us all.
