Terry Blake Rust, born May 4, 1948, in Sullivan County, Tennessee to Thomas Jan (TJ) Rust and Olive Nannette Malone Rust. He attended Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN, where he played in the marching band. He went on to graduate from East Tennessee State majoring in Political Science. He had a distinguished career in retail management that afforded him the opportunity to live in several cities throughout the south. On Monday, September 5, 2022, he unexpectedly passed away peacefully in his sleep at home. Preceded in death by his parents and older brothers, Philip Rust & Gary Rust. Survivors include his loving wife of more than 50 years, Marilyn McConnell Rust, daughter and son-in-law, Christy & Todd Taylor, son, Tony Rust, grandchildren, Lauren Fleming, Prince Tega Wanogho, Zack Taylor, Lacey Rust & great-grand-daughter who was his name-sake Ella "Blake" Fleming.
The great loves of his life were the Lord, his wife, Marilyn, and his family! He spent his time especially these last few years taking care of Marilyn during her battle with cancer. He was her rock and moved mountains to make sure she received the treatment she needed to stay healthy. He had a knack for making everyone around him smile. He celebrated everything and truly lived in each moment. He taught his family to be kind, thoughtful, loving but additionally competitive and hard working. Even making sure all the grandkids knew he would not go easy on them no matter what the game was, especially UNO! He wanted everyone around him to do their best and strive to reach their potential! The love he showed so many was ever reaching, his way of giving advice or just being that listening ear will never be replaceable! One of the kindest and most loving people, he never met a stranger. Always willing to learn and hear about someone else's story. His smile would light up a room and warm your heart no matter the situation.
If he was not doing something with his family, you would find him listening to records, talking to customers at Eastbrook, sitting on the beach, dancing to beach music, working on his garden or discussing Auburn football. May we never stop hearing him sing, screaming War Eagle and never stop remembering him dancing! The man with a booming voice & a very gentle heart!
Private memorial service held before visitation. Family will receive visitors September 18th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm at Leak Memory and they look forward to hearing stories about Terry or “Grandfather” as he was known to so many!
