Sylvie Tremblay Gandy passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on November 13, 2022 after a painful struggle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Tremblay; mother, Yoland LaVoie; and sister, France Tremblay. Sylvie is survived by her husband of 35 wonderful years, Hal; sons Alex (Kelly); Michael (Suzy); grandson, Brooks; and nieces Annie and Amelie Beaudette.
Growing up in Montréal, Quebec, she received her nursing degree from College de Maisonneuve and studied Public Health at Université de Montréal.
Sylvie was a loving mother and wife, an accomplished cook and seamstress, who loved her children beyond measure. She loved to travel, and she loved nursing, and was able to combine these loves in her mission work with Kenya Relief in southwest Kenya. She travelled to Kenya 14 times spending up to a month on various medical missions and serving on the Board of Kenya Relief.
She worked at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and spent many years in various roles at Jackson Hospital and with Noland Health Services. She touched many lives and leaves a host of dear friends and colleagues from her career in health care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Redland Baptist Church 1266 Dozier Road, Wetumpka, Al 36093. Visitation will begin at 1:30pm with Services starting at 2:30pm.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to KenyaRelief.org or the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
The family would like to express special thanks to all the staff and doctors at UAB Kirklin Clinic, Jackson Hospital, and Jackson Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center who took incredible care of Sylvie.
