Stephen (“Steve”) Alan Sievers finished the race of his life on Tuesday, November 28, crossing the finish line into the presence of Jesus. A 3-time Ironman Triathlete, Steve set a personal record of 41 years of marriage to Lane, 37 years of fatherhood to Chase (Lauren) and Christy (Mario), and 9 years of being “Pops” to Judah, Caden, Maggie, Noah and Olivia. The last leg of his race was the strongest, as he fully gave his life to his Lord and became an active member of Harvest Family Church in Montgomery. In spite of health challenges, Steve went on 2 mission trips, sharing the Gospel in China and Colombia. He looked for every opportunity to testify of the goodness of God and the saving, healing power of Jesus. “All I want is for God to use me,” was his continual refrain.
Born on April 1, 1959 in Birmingham, AL to Lewellyn Sievers, Steve was adopted by his stepfather, Robert Sievers, at a young age. He attended Chisholm Elementary, Goodwyn Jr. High and was the valedictorian of Edgewood Academy. Steve began working for his father’s accounting firm in high school. After graduating from AUM and passing the CPA exam, Steve took over the business when his dad passed in 1989. Steve was a prominent member of the business community in Wetumpka and a long-time member and leader with the Wetumpka Rotary Club.
Steve leaves a legacy of love, humor, generosity, humility, hard work, loyalty, kindness, faith and perseverance. He’ll be remembered whenever we see a cyclist or runner on the road (be kind and share the road!). He put his family, friends and clients above himself. He was an ironman, inside and outside, sharpening us all to be better followers of Jesus (Prov 27:17).
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lewellyn Sievers; grandparents, Virgil and Leila Dailey; father-in-law, William Paul McNeese, Sr.; mother-in-law, Lee Helms McNeese; brothers, Walter Sievers (Beth) and Charles Sievers; uncle, CT Wallace; aunts, Mignon Hand (Jack), Billy Wallace Lee, and Joan Wallace
