Stephen Eugene Brantley passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019 after an extended illness. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He served 32 years with the United States Army as a member of 20th Special Forces, a military police investigator and later with the Army Reserve and Alabama National Guard. He served the Montgomery Police Department as a patrol officer, motorcycle officer, detective, and undercover vice and narcotics detective. He also served as a private investigator and a photographer. After that he was a Special Investigator with Alabama Dept. of Corrections. He later was a Special Agent with the Alabama Securities Commission, where he investigated white collar crimes. He also worked as a set designer for the Wetumpka Depot Players. He had many interesting and humorous stories to tell, embellished with his wonderful sense of humor. He was a man of courage and honor, and a gentle, sweet man to his friends and family.
Stephen was predeceased by his parents, John W. and Annie L. Brantley, and his brother John Brantley, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Brantley; his children, Mark LeCroy (Susan), Sonya Brantley, Stephen Brantley (Melissa); six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four brothers, James, Paul, Phillip, and Mark Brantley and their families; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at 1:00pm with a Celebration of Life Service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
