She was born in Montgomery on January 8, 1940, to Mark Lewis Grable Sr. and Letha Law Grable. She grew up in Montgomery and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1957. Following graduation she attended Emory University where she was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After graduating from Emory, she taught school in DeKalb County, Georgia, for many years. She was highly regarded and loved by her students and associates.
Shirley enjoyed traveling and writing. She always said that her favorite place to visit was Greece. She returned to Montgomery several years ago and resided here until her death.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Mark Lewis Grable Jr. She is survived by her sister, Carol Grable Pierce (Bart), her niece Sarah Pierce Triebel (Joshua), her nephew Matthew D. Pierce, great -nephews Pierce Triebel and Sonder Triebel. She is also survived by her niece Lauren Grable Kidwell (Wayne) and their daughter Teresa.
The family is grateful to Vanessa Tymes and Stephanie Smith. They went above and beyond with their loving and caring service to Shirley.
A family and friends visitation for Shirley will be held Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life memorial service at 2:15 PM in which Dr. Jay Wolfe will officiate. Refreshments will be served after the service.
