

Shirley Brownstein Beringer passed away in the early hours of October 4, 2023, at the age of 100 years old. She was born in her grandmother’s home in Cleveland, Mississippi, on December 21, 1922, to loving parents Mose and Lil Brownstein. She grew up as a child of the Mississippi Delta enjoying the outdoors and especially fishing on the banks of the river. Her High School years were in Newport, AR where she reigned as Homecoming Queen. She attended LSU and the University of Alabama, where she met and married Arthur Beringer during WWII and moved to Montgomery after the war.
After growing up as an only child she was thrilled to have four children and the following generations from whom she took such delight as they included her in their lives.
Shirley is predeceased by her loving husband Arthur Beringer and her parents, Lil and Mose Brownstein and her son-in-law, Col. Robert Goldberg. She is survived by her sons, Rick (Marlene) Beringer, Ken (Nathalie) Beringer, her daughters Betty Goldberg and Leslie Beringer Fitterman, her grandchildren Michael (Lydia) Beringer, Leigh Anne (David) Nomberg, Kevin Beringer, Bradley (Julia) Beringer, David (Kim) Berman, Erik Goldberg, Binyomin (Hadasa) Fitterman, Brown Fitterman, Doran Fitterman, and Asher Fitterman. She is also survived by great-grandchildren George and Will Beringer, Lilly and Ellis Nomberg, Hayden Beringer, Tessa Berman, Chana Bracha and Shaina Fitterman.
The family is grateful for the care given by the staff at Oak Grove Inn and especially to her caretakers Monica Rogers, Cynthia Jackson, Delois Brown, and Jean Middleton.
Her funeral service will be a family graveside service at Eternal Rest/ Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, October 6, 2023, with Rabbi Scott Looper officiating.
