Holt, Sara M., 91 of Montgomery passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 in Montgomery. Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm Tuesday, October 11 at Leak Memory Chapel with visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Holt, Tom Johnson, Tom O’Neil, Mike Echols, Sam McGlamry, and Doug McGlamry.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Viola McGlamry and her previous husband, Harry Harrison. Survivors include her loving husband of 33 years, Truman Holt, step children Michael Holt and his wife Brenda, Paulette Johnson and her husband Tom, Cindy O’Neil and her husband Tom, and Amy Echols and her husband Mike, 11 step grandchildren, and two step great grandchildren.
Sara was born in Holtville and graduated from the University of Montevallo with a bachelor’s degree in business. Her first job was in bookkeeping with Sears & Roebuck in Montgomery. She then worked at Brookly Air Force Base in Mobile and was transferred to Maxwell Air Force Base. During World War II she was the main carrier of payroll information between Maxwell and the Pentagon. She worked as a computer analyst in the civil service for 36 years before she retired.
She was an active member in the Pilot Club of East Montgomery for many years and served as president from 1975-1976. Sara and Truman enjoyed traveling and after retiring they drove their motorhome on many adventures from Nova Scotia to Alaska and from the west coast to the east. Sara and Truman lived in Montgomery and later in Cleveland, Georgia. They returned to Tuscaloosa for one year and then moved back to Montgomery in 2006. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 6610 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36116.
